Spring 2 2023 Review

Update 3: Somebody Swallowed Stanley

We read the story of ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’ to help talk about the dangers of litter and how it has a negative impact on our local ecosystems, then begun to think up ways to help solve the problem.

Following our discussions we have pledged to collect 20 bags of litter from our school site and boundary using litter pickers and gloves to be #Litterheroes if you feel inspired join the #Litterheroes visit the website below to make your own litter pledge and make your community a better place.

Update 2: Michael Recycle

We’ve read Michael Recycle which provoked a discussion about recycling, where old things are turned into new things

We begun to organise objects by the different materials they are made of so that we know which recycling bin each object should be placed in. To keep things simple we looked at plastic, paper and metal sorting and then discussed how many different things can be made out of each material. After meeting as a group, lots of our school council members went on to find the different recycle bins in our classroom and help to sort out the objects by material. If you would like to continue the conversation at home there is a fantastic video which covers quite grown-up ideas but allows for fantastic conversations.

Update 1: Dinosaurs and all that rubbish

We’ve read Dinosaurs and all that rubbish by Michael Foreman which prompted a discussion about how important it is to look after our planet.

We decided its important to look after our world as it belongs to everyone and should not be spoilt by some people’s choices. Once finished we decided to make posters to teach others about the importance of looking after our planet together.

If you would like to continue the conversation at home you could; have a look at the things you recycle, try collecting rubbish from a local park, try to walk / take the bus for a journey you might normally drive or make some more posters to share with the world.
