Rowland Hill Nursery School & Children's Centre

Spring 1 2023 Review

Update 2: Pablo the super banana

We have been looking at  the story of Pablo the super banana to talk about the idea of fair trade produce and how important it is to pay people fairly for the work they do no matter where they live. We encourage the children to look more closely at the fruit and other produce they see in shops to look out for the fair trade logo. If you would like to continue the work we have started, you could talk to your children about where familiar food, clothes and toys might be made and the journey they have taken to arrive in front of us when we need them.

Update 1: New School council convened

We have launched our new school council and welcomed the first of our Parent Eco-Champions into our session, where we read the story of King Leonard’s Teddy. This prompted a discussion about how the choices we make impact the others around us and how as a school council it is our job to make Rowland Hill a better place for everyone.

We talked about the meaning behind the recycling logo and where we might have seen it before. Lastly, we decided to have a go at reusing everyday resources at the making table to give them a new purpose. If you would like to share the story you can find it on our YouTube channel and if you feel inspired to reuse things around the house and give them a new purpose make sure you upload a photo onto Tapestry to share with us!
