A day in the life of nursery

This is what a typical day would be for your child in Nursery:

Talking times

Morning 8.30 to 8.45 am 
Afternoon 12.30 to 1pm 
…and at the end of the session
Morning 11am to 11.25 am
Afternoon 3.10 to 3.25 pm

Children start their nursery session by being welcomed into Talking Time by their keyperson and by self-registering with their keyperson in their specific Talking Time area.

The sessions then involve the children taking part in the hello song, mark making/ writing their names, induction programme, sharing the learning opportunities that day , Phase 1 Letters and Sounds (listening skills ) and when the children are developmentally ready the Read Write Inc (RWI ) phonic programme.

The end sessions involve the children exploring provocation Talking Tubs and documenting their learning in group Floor Books, singing and music sessions with Angeline –our resident Musician, helicopter stories, RWI phonic sessions, Maths, Core books using the story sacks , stories and rhymes.

Nursery session

Morning 8.45 to 11 am
Afternoon 1 to 3.10pm

We have a ‘free – flow’ provision and children are encouraged to use all areas to ensure they have opportunities to access a broad and balanced curriculum.

The defined areas are:


An indoor area where children access Process Cooking , self-service Snack, Maths , Literacy, the Reading Village, Construction and Block play , Mark Making, Small World and the Dark room with the light box.


A creative space for children to explore the Woodwork area, Clay and playdough, Malleable/Sensory experiences, STEAM experiences, Transient Art, Exploratory play, Paint, Drawing and Art techniques, Water play , Music/Dance and Projector.


Outdoor area including Loose parts, Literacy and Maths opportunities, Outdoor classroom, Reading shed , Mud kitchen, Digging area , water and sand play, growing and gardening, physical play including the climbing frame and tunnel, small apparatus such as balls and bats, den building, a quiet memory area and Minibeast area , stage area for Helicopter stories, singing, music and dance , recycling depot, large block play, shaded areas and climbing trees.
